Best in Class – 2025 Greenwich Concours d’Elegance

1st of June 2025 – Connecticut

There are moments in our journey as restorers that stay with us—not just because of the recognition, but because of the story behind the car, and the people who believe in what we do. This weekend at the 2025 Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, one such moment unfolded.

Our restored 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda, equipped with the ultra-rare ZF 5-speed manual gearbox, was awarded Best in Class in the "Post-War German Sports – Mercedes SL" category.

This recognition means a lot to us. But more importantly, it represents the culmination of shared passion, trust, and craftsmanship.

A Special Car, and an Even More Meaningful Partnership

This 280 SL is not just rare—it’s extraordinary. As the final-built example of a small number of 280 SLs fitted with the ZF 5-speed gearbox, it holds a special place in Mercedes-Benz history. But what truly elevated this project was the partnership with its owner.

Eric Blumencranz, its owner, is no stranger to fine automobiles, but he came to us seeking something beyond just a restoration. He wanted a car that honored its heritage while being reborn to drive, inspire, and endure. His enthusiasm and deep appreciation for detail mirrored our own. It became a true collaboration, from the earliest phases of disassembly through final shakedown testing.

To us, every great restoration begins with trust—and we’re grateful Eric entrusted us with this remarkable car.

The Restoration

Our work began with a complete, frame-off restoration at our facility in the Area of Stuttgart, Grafenau. The original car was carefully preserved and refinished. Every mechanical component—from the ZF gearbox to the injection system—was rebuilt to factory specification.

The interior was restored in leather matching the original spec, using period-correct materials and craftsmanship. The paintwork was refined to concours level, and the engine bay finished to the same exacting standard. Every step was documented.

We believe restoration is more than technique—it’s the art of bringing history back to life.

Recognition at Greenwich

When the car rolled onto the field at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, we already felt proud. But when it was named Best in Class by the Greenwich judges, the feeling was indescribable.

The concours, one of the most respected on the East Coast, celebrates the highest levels of originality, finish, and authenticity. To be recognized among such an esteemed group is a true honor—for us, for Eric, and for everyone who contributed to the project.

Looking Ahead

We see this award not as a conclusion, but as a milestone. It reminds us why we do what we do—and who we do it for. It strengthens our resolve to preserve automotive history not just with precision, but with soul.

To Eric, thank you for believing in our team and sharing this journey with us. And to our community of clients and classic car enthusiasts, we look forward to continuing this work with the same heart and commitment that brought this Pagoda to life.
